125th Anniversary Celebration
Cashmere Presbyterian Church celebrated our 125th Anniversary in 2017!
A special anniversary weekend concert was on Friday, October 27, 2017. We heard music from our 70-year-old pipe organ played by Ben Ellis, the Keene Family with trumpets and other brass, two violinists, musical compositions on the church piano by Pastor Chuck Clarke, and selections by our choir.
We heard the old church bell, bought in 1903 by the ladies of the church, and installed in the original church building on the corner of Cottage and Woodring Avenues, now installed in our 1930 brick neo-Gothic building. We also celebrated the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation! Pastor Chuck brought the message and our choir led us in a ministry of music.
Thank you for helping us celebrate 125 years of witness and service to God in the Wenatchee Valley.
The Original Church
Our original church was built in the pioneer settlement of Old Mission in 1892.
First Presbyterian Church was located on Cottage Avenue, Mission, Washington (now known as Cashmere, Washington).
It was the first Protestant church in the area, and it served several other faiths during those first years.
One of the founding fathers was O.J. Steward, who also owned a general store in town and ran the post office.
In 1896, the earliest school classes in the town were held in our church!

Centennial Celebration 1892-1992
Our current church was built on the corner of Elberta and Maple in the heart of Cashmere (Old Mission) located at 303 Maple Street, Cashmere, Washington, USA.
First Presbyterian Church was dedicated November 30, 1930 to the service of God. The name was formally changed to “Cashmere Presbyterian Church”.
In October 1992, we celebrated our Centennial with a banquet honoring relatives of Steward and other pioneers.

Can you name any of these choir members?

Special Projects
In addition to regular giving, our ministry is responsible for developing and executing a finance plan for special projects. In past years, we have:
- Built a Fellowship Hall with Pastor’s Office
- Built an entrance/elevator to the sanctuary level for those with special needs
- Replaced the church roof
- Gave the sanctuary a makeover with new carpeting and paint
- Purchased a vintage Steinway grand piano
All of these were financed with Pledge Campaigns where the giving commitment could be spread over two-to-three years. We didn’t “break ground” on any projects until they had been fully funded with pledges.
